Hey there!
We get it—learning from boring lists isn’t much fun. That’s why we’re here to share some cool tricks for teaching English words to kids aged 6 to 12. Let’s make learning exciting!
Learning words is super important because it helps kids read better, talk more confidently, and understand the world around them. But how do we make it fun? Well, it’s all about getting creative and making words come alive!
Check out these four fun ways to learn:
Picture Cards
Get some picture cards—like flashcards—and let’s play!
- Describe something, and ask kids to find the card with that word.
- Scatter cards around, describe each one, and have kids find the right match.
- Get kids involved by letting them help make the cards. They’ll learn while having fun!
Story Time
Let’s tell stories with new words!
- Give kids some words and ask them to make up a story using them.
- Get them to use the words in sentences to understand them better.
Make Connections
Let’s make big words easier!
- Ask kids to think of things that make them feel a certain way when they hear a word. Like, when they hear “delicious,” what’s the yummiest thing they can think of?
- Break big words into smaller parts to help them remember. Like “fireman” can be “fire” and “man.”
Play Games
Learning through games is the best!
- Learn new words with songs and sing along.
- Play Bingo with new words. Make cards with different words, and see who can get a line first!
- Try a game called Kim. Show some cards, then hide or switch them. Kids have to spot the changes!
